Selling a jersey match on eBay? How to title it

Collectors who want a jersey match search for the player and the serial. If your title has both, written the way the card is, they find it. So do we: Jersey Match Library searches eBay every day and shows jersey matches next to each player's checklist, for free. Here is exactly how to write it, using cards from our own collection.

From eBay, matched to the jersey numbers in Jersey Match Library. Licensed cards only. Bids update every hour or so and can be up to 6 hours behind eBay; the current bid on eBay is always right.

The title, piece by piece

We title our own listings this way. Each piece has a job:

LeBron James1Player's full nameJERSEY MATCH2Say it023/2993Serial, as stamped-2024-254YearPrizm5ProductRed Seismic6Parallel#1307Card numberPSA 98Grade
  1. Player's full name. First and last, spelled like the card. We search eBay by full name, and so do buyers.
  2. JERSEY MATCH. Collectors type it into eBay. In capitals near the front, it stops someone scrolling.
  3. The serial, exactly as stamped, with its slash. 023/299 or 23/299 both work. No space before the slash, no "#" in front, no question mark after.
  4. The year of the card. 2024-25 or 24-25 for basketball and hockey, 2025 for football, baseball and WNBA. Without it, we can't tell which season's card it is, and the season decides which number is the match.
  5. The product. Prizm, Select, Donruss Optic, Topps Chrome... Say "Optic" if it's Optic, not just "Donruss": they are different cards.
  6. The parallel's name. Red Seismic, Blue Ice, Aqua RayWave Refractor. Use the name on the checklist. It has to agree with the print run: "Blue 023/299" makes us skip the listing when that card's Blue isn't numbered to 299.
  7. The card number, with a "#": #130. It tells two cards of the same player in the same set apart.
  8. Extras, if they fit: RC, the grade, the team. The title stops at 80 characters, so cut extras first, never the serial or the year.

Not sure of the year, product or parallel name? Look the card up in Jersey Match Library or check your card: both use the same names we search for.

What we find, and what we miss

Each title below went through the same check our library uses on every eBay listing.

  • ✗ Not shownLeBron James 2024-25 Prizm Red Seismic 023 /299A space before the slash. "023 /299" reads like card number 23 and a print run of 299.
  • ✗ Not shownLeBron James 2024-25 Prizm Red Seismic 23/299?A question mark after the serial reads as a guess, not a claim.
  • ✗ Not shownLeBron James Red Seismic Prizm PSA 9 /299 JERSEY MATCHNo serial and no year: the buyer has to take your word for it.
  • ~ WeakerLeBron James 2024-25 Prizm Red Seismic /299 Jersey Match #130Shown, but only as "Seller says jersey match". Write the serial and it shows as a confirmed match.
  • ~ WeakerLeBron 2024-25 Prizm Red Seismic 023/299Easy to miss: we search eBay by full name, and so do most buyers.

We also skip titles with words that usually mean it isn't one numbered card: lot, you pick, custom, reprint, art card. Titles that call a miscut card "1/1", or say "throwback jersey match" or "color match" about the uniform, aren't shown either. A card with two of our players on it may be left out, so name the player the card is about.

Photos that sell a jersey match

A jersey match buyer checks one thing before anything else: is the number real? Three photos answer it.

3. The back. Card number and set, plus the slab label if it's graded.

Small things that help it sell

  • Accept offers. Our tiles say "Accepts offers", and many collectors only start a conversation that way.
  • Show the shipping cost. We sort by price plus shipping, so a fair total ranks better than a low price with high shipping.
  • Feedback matters. Sellers with under 100 ratings or under 99% positive are still shown, with a "check seller" note. A few small sales first builds trust.
  • Licensed or not, say what it is. We show unlicensed cards too, labeled "no team logos". Buyers appreciate honesty more than a vague title.
  • Say why the number matters, in the description: the season he wore it, what he did in it. That's the story the buyer is paying for.

Quick answers

Does it cost anything to be shown?

No. We search eBay ourselves, every day, for the players in Jersey Match Library. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to pay.

How soon will my listing show up?

Usually within a day. Every player is searched at least once a day, auctions ending within 24 hours are checked every morning, and a visit to a player's page searches eBay right then.

My player isn't in the library. What now?

Ask for them on Jersey Match Library (search for the player, then tap "Request this player"). New players are added once their jersey numbers and cards are checked.

Do item specifics help?

They help buyers who filter on eBay (set "Serial Numbered" and the print run), but our search reads the title. Put everything that matters in the title.

What if the title says one serial and the card shows another?

The photo wins. Collectors report listings whose photo doesn't match, and we hide them. A clear photo of the serial is the best protection you have.
